BACKROUND OF KING HENRY VIII
King Henry’s reign lasted from 1509 to 1547, almost FOUR decades! King Henry lived all of his life in England. As a youth, he was very athletic and highly intelligent. He loved to play instruments and conduct different kinds of music. King Henry VIII is most known for having six wives. Most of them could not produce a boy for the next generation of rulers.

Geographic Information
Being located on an island (Great Britain), it was hard for the king to communicate with other people on the mainland (Ex; Pope). The advantage of living on an island is that it provides protection from invaders. Since King Henry VIII was living on the same island as the Scottish, he could have affected the Scottish reformation.

Many important people in the life of King Henry VIII
Anne Boleyn was King Henry’s second wife. She was the reason why the English Reformation happened. King Henry VIII had wanted to divorce his first wife but the Church did not allow that. Also, she was executed for committing treason. She was then be-headed. Jane Seymour was one of the most important people in the life of King Henry VIII because she was the only wife to give him a son.

Events During King Henry VIII
The English Reformation was very important in English history.King Henry wanted to divorce his first wife (Catherine of Aragon) so e could marry Anne Boleyn. The Roman Catholic Church did not allow divorce; they thought that you would marry for life. Afraid of being excommunicated, Henry approached the pope for a special, "Papal Dispensation". The pope did not think of it and decided not to let it happen. In anger, King Henry VIII ordered the Archbishop of Canterbury to grant him a divorce. The divorce was granted. The citizens were furious because they had to pay to get married, Baptized, or even buried. King Henry VIII used this as an advantage, so he made himself the church leader. The pope no longer had power. All monasteries were destroyed and the Church was now based in England.
Scottish Reformation
The Scottish reformation affected much of what happened in Europe. Religion was important to everyday life. It was responsible for education, welfare, and health. But, the church had been split into Protestant and Presbyterian. Civil war had broken out. The Catholics were then driven out of Scotland into France. The Scottish then became Presbyterian.

Interesting Facts of King Henry VIII
First of all, King Henry VIII was a skilled musician. He loved to conduct music and he played the lute (one of the most important instruments in European history, developed during the Renaissance). Also, King Henry loved to watch sports! Some of his favorites were hunting and wrestling. Henry VIII is most famous for the fact that he had six wives. Two of these wives were executed, two were divorced, one died of natural causes, and one outlived King Henry VIII. Since the king had lots of money and power, he had a library of over a thousand books (EX: Bibles, joke books, and history novels. King Henry VIII would not have become king if his brother, Prince Arthur, hadn’t died!
